The Ghosts of Halloween Past

November 01, 2010

Warning extreme gratuitous cuteness beyond this point.
Halloween... A dieter's nightmare, right?  It doesn't have to be.
I did have a couple of pieces of candy, and allowed myself 3 pieces of my amazing Godiva chocolate, but I made it through relatively unaffected by the candy.  Of course with someone this cute in tow, you can only image the vast amounts of candy that people lavished upon him.
Watch out!  I STING!

Honestly, I don't think he could be any cuter, but I'm biased.
As I uploaded some gratuitously cute pictures last night, I also found these pictures.  I hate it when I'm filing away pictures for an occasion of some type, and happen to run across photos of myself from those same occasions in past years.  I always shudder, and then feel amazed and blessed that I finally won this weight battle.
Halloween 2008 - I'm happy, but "L" not so much

Halloween 2008 - Not AS scary

Halloween 2010 - Whew.. .much better!

Amazing what the passage of time can do... how easily we forget where we've come from, yet how quick and painful the reminders often are.  I'll never flee this past life of fat.  It will ALWAYS be with me no matter how many pounds and years separate us.  I'll always have pictures that serve as painful reminders of what I used to be.

As a wise history teacher I once taught me:  "Those who don't remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana

And so, I don't hit the delete button on those pictures... I keep them tucked away, so that I will NEVER EVER go back there.

P.S. - If you are dealing with lots of extra candy remember that there are lots of places where you can donate it.  Here are a handle of options.

I saw my in laws today for the first time since I started this journey. 89 lbs banished forever (so far, but I am not done). I cried when my mother in law told me that I was beautiful.

THANK YOU for sharing places to donate candy!! =)

  2. Sarah,
I'm so glad that you choose to keep these photos. Nothing serves as a better reminder than pictures of the person we 'used' to be. Whenever I have days where I feel down, or just plain uncomfortable I look over at my previous self which is tucked into the frame on my bathroom mirror.
BTW, you're not being biased - he just happens to be the cutest bee I've ever seen!!
