You Gotta Face the Clouds to Find the Silver Lining
June 10, 2010It's Thursday... and you know what they means? Yep less than 2 days to go until my race, but we already covered that earlier. It means weigh in day.
And I'm here to report a whopping .4 (yep that's a point) of a pound loss. So between the 0 loss last week and the .4, I'm down .4 of a pound in 2 weeks. The only day of which I didn't work out in (either running or Curves) was Memorial Day. OK, please hold a moment, while I scream :
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
Okay, thanks, I feel much better now. Seriously, I don't know how it can even be possible. You see, I'm from a scientific background. I like math, and I like black and whites - proven theories. 1+1 always equals 2... that sort of nerd stuff. This doesn't add up, and I hate it. I am burning way more calories than taking in. I ate a decent amount too so I'm not starving myself, but not too much. I ate all but 3 of my weekly 35 points, and hit my target of 24 each day. I earned 38 activity points (and if you don't do Weight Watchers I'm sorry for the blah blah blah). I should have easily lost 2 lbs. I didn't... and I didn't last week either, and I'm just going to say it. I feel gypped!
I was pretty distraught about that, and the weather forecast for race time on Saturday this morning. So much so that I pretty much spent my whole run crying. It felt cathartic though, and then on the way to work in the car I heard these words in a song:
Kutless -What Faith Can Do
Everybody falls sometimes
Gotta find the strength to rise
From the ashes and make a new beginning
Anyone can feel the ache
You think it’s more than you can take
But you're stronger, stronger than you know
Don’t you give up now
The sun will soon be shining
You gotta face the clouds
To find the silver lining
I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn’t ever end
Even when the sky is falling
I’ve seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That’s what faith can do
It doesn’t matter what you’ve heard
Impossible is not a word
It’s just a reason for someone not to try
Everybody’s scared to death
When they decide to take that step
Out on the water
It’ll be alright
Life is so much more
Than what your eyes are seeing
You will find your way
If you keep believing
Overcome the odds
You don't have a chance
When the world says you can’t
It’ll tell you that you can!
Wow.. talk about hit me in the face, exactly what I needed to hear, especially this part: "You think it’s more than you can take, But you're stronger, stronger than you know, Don’t you give up now, The sun will soon be shining, You gotta face the clouds, To find the silver lining."
EXACTLY!!! Exactly true 2 years ago for me when I started this journey. I had clouds... big clouds, but I had to face those clouds, in order to get to this point - to be down these 96.2 pounds. And I am NOT about to give up because of some stinking thunderstorms or rain or even a scale that laughs in the face of my exercise and diet! So take that bad day, and shove it!

You're amazing - congratulations on your fantastic downsizing (loss sounds like you're going to find it again :) ) and all the best for your race!
ReplyDeleteHang in there! As you know, the body works in strange ways. I am confident you'll see the fruits of this labor very soon.
